Middles Nature Walk

nature walk main

On Wednesday, the Middles went for a walk to Darebin Creek.

We saw lots of cool things like spider webs, leaves, and ducks. We could hear birds chirping and the water flowing, which made it feel calm and peaceful.

There were lots of living things to look at, as well as non-living things in the environment.

Unfortunately, we also saw too much litter.

This reminded us how important it is to put our rubbish in the bin and take care of nature.

Overall, it was a lovely morning for a walk!

Dolly’s Dream Visit

On Monday, we welcomed Dave from Dolly’s Dream, who led a wonderful session with our students on the theme of kindness.

Thank you so much for having me today. Your students were incredibly well behaved, so respectful and wonderfully engaged. – A message from Dave from Dolly’s Dream

Our students engaged beautifully throughout the discussion, showing maturity and respect in the way they participated.

A warm thank you to the parents who took the time to join us for the session.

Liturgy of the Light

On our first day back at school, the school community gathered to celebrate the Liturgy of the Light.

This prayerful service recounted Jesus’s death and Resurrection, which the wider church community had celebrated during the holidays.

A group of senior students re-enacted the events of Holy Week, helping all of us to focus on the significance of these events.

As part of the celebration, the ALLELUIA, which had been hidden away for the duration of Lent, was opened again and celebrated.  The Holy Spirit giant Easter egg was opened and everyone enjoyed a chocolate treat.

Easter is a call for all members of the community to be a light in the lives of others.

Some of the ways we can remember to be this light at Holy Spirit are:

  • Smile- you’d be surprised how powerful this is.
  • Share- being a giver is a fast way to make friends and even make YOU feel good
  • Simply say hello to others in the corridors
  • Forgive quickly, remember we all make mistakes
  • Think the best of others, rather than look for the worst
  • Respect and care for your parents, grandparents and all family members.

Something to try…..

At Holy Spirit Primary School, we know that children thrive when they feel a sense of genuine belonging.

Here’s one way you can create this in your family.

Imagine your relationship with your child is a bucket. Water in the bucket is a connection: feeling seen, heard, valued, accepted. Air is correction and direction.

When things get hard, our natural impulse is to go straight to command-and-control. That tips water out.

A tougher but more effective approach is to connect first. Say, “This is pretty tough right now, huh?” and let it sit. Promise your child you’re in this together.

That tips water in.

No one wants to carry a bucket full of air. It gets left behind. Fill the bucket, especially when it’s hard and the real solutions follow.
