Senior Sport
Cricket

Interschool sports was a huge success for the Holy Spirit cricket team.
We won two games, tied one, and lost one, with everyone giving it their all on the day. A special mention goes to Year Four students Cooper and Ethan, who joined the team. Thanks to both of them for stepping up!
The highlights were plentiful. There was a hat trick (three wickets in a row), Cooper smashed 30 runs off just four balls, and plenty of kids celebrated their first ever wickets. A big thank you to McDonnell Park for hosting us, and to the teachers who made the day possible.

Rounders

On interschool sports day, we played Rounders. The Cricketers came to watch our first round, and after our last round we returned the favour and watched them.
Most of the Year Five girls were on the team. We played against St Mary’s, St Joseph’s, and Northcote twice.
Whether we were batting or fielding, winning or losing, we gave it everything we had and had a great time.

Basketball

We represented Holy Spirit in basketball. The three teams walked down to Narrandjeri Stadium for what turned out to be an amazing day. The vibe was immaculate from the start.
The girls played four games in total, finishing in fourth place. The team worked hard, communicated well, and did a great job encouraging each other through every pass, dribble, and shot. After such an intense day, the push pops and ice cream were very much enjoyed.
Overall, everyone played well and had a fantastic time. We can’t wait for the next interschool sports gala!
Reconciliation Celebration

Last Tuesday, some of our Grade 3 students received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was a beautiful and prayerful evening, shared with students from St Anthony’s Alphington.
Parents proudly presented their children to Father Shabin, Fr Brendan, and Fr Tuong, as they participated in this special sacrament. It was a meaningful step in their faith journey, and we were very proud of each and every one of them.
As a community, we give thanks for the gift of the Blessed Sacrament, which reminds us of God’s love, mercy, and constant presence in our lives.
Congratulations to:
Freddie Bonnici, Julia Curran-Fernandez, Lianna Van Den Boer, Grace Mansfield, Charlotte Ryan, Jack Stapleton, Rosie Dinh, Sofia Kairouz, Genie Lang, Jaden Petruccelli, Alice Saad, Nicholas Scriba and Zoe Tran.
Ride2school Day

On Monday we celebrated ‘Ride to School’ Day.
What a wonderful, sunny morning watching smiling faces enter the school yard after walking, riding and scooting to school. On arrival students were given stickers and also popped their names into the raffle for prizes such as drink bottles, bells and reflective helmet stickers.
Throughout the day we also had an engaging visit from Anne who is from the RACV Safety Squad to listen to safety information such as passenger safety, pedestrian safety, bike safety and identifying hazards in the home.
We hope we can see more people walking, scooting or riding safely to school!!! Thanks for your support!

A visit from ex-student Loren

We were lucky to have Loren, a former Holy Spirit student, visit the Middles to talk about wellbeing.
She taught us how important it is to be kind and not be mean, even if someone is mean to us. Loren reminded us that we can always choose how we respond. Being mean back only makes things worse, so it’s better to ask a teacher for help if we need it.
Loren also talked about friendships and how we can make friends in all the groups we belong to, like soccer, dancing or basketball. She showed us how easy it is to include others and give compliments, which can really make someone’s day.

We learned about standing up for our friends and for ourselves. When we stand up for others, it’s called being an active bystander.
Loren’s visit was fun and interesting, and we learnt lots of tips about wellbeing. Thank you, Loren!

Something to think about in the holidays!!
What is your term two morning routine going to look like? Are you happy with how term one went or are you up for a change for the better?
Here’s a few tips to discuss together with your kids – always good to do this while driving in the car together as it’s harder for them to avoid!!
- What time does everyone need to wake up? If this hasn’t been working, is it time to get an alarm??
- Are showers or baths easier the night before?
- Can we lay out clothes and pack bags the night before?
- Do we eat breakfast first or get dressed first?
- TV or tech off in the morning?
Often after the holidays, it can be challenging, particularly for the junior students to return to school after being at home with parents, carers, etc.
If a child is able to talk about these challenges and how they are feeling, this is great!! Listen to their concerns, and together, brainstorm and trial new moring goodbye routines!
This could be the time to listen to your child’s teacher and understand why they are putting certain structures into place. We are always trying to find routines that feel comfortable, safe and successful for each and every one of us!!
Thanks to the HSPA
The Holy Spirit Parent Association has been working hard to raise funds for improvements to our school.
I would like to sincerely thank them for their work in organising the recent cake stall on St Patrick’s Day and the Easter Raffle. Thank you also to our community for the generous donation of eggs which enabled us to offer so many wonderful prizes.
This year we have purchased readers for the Junior school using some of the funds raised last year. We are now exploring further improvements to ensure our children continue to have positive and enriching experiences at Holy Spirit.
The support and commitment of the HSPA along with the generosity of our school community, allows our school to continue to grow and provide valuable opportunities for all our children.
