New Holy Spirit Thornbury Playground

It Takes a Village to Build a Playground – And We Did It!!

What an exciting day we had on Tuesday with the opening of our new Adventure Playground.

On Tuesday morning we gathered as a school community to celebrate the opening of the playground and personally thank those who worked so hard to make it possible.

Firstly, we must thank our school community for the great fundraising effort that made the playground possible. Our fete two years ago was a major contributor to this fund and the many smaller fundraising activities contributed to this along with our generous sponsors.

Our working committee of parents including Kimberley Tsokakis and Voula Nuske was so ably led by Jacky Oro who managed the project. Jacky co-ordinated the quoting, design and installation process for us and liaised with Adventure Plus Playgrounds who have been fantastic throughout the process at meeting our needs.

The children are really enjoying the new activities and getting to know the equipment that they have waited so patiently for.

We look forward to many years of enjoyment on our new equipment which is another great asset to our school and the children.

Bringing STEM to Life Through Coding and 3D Printing

Our Junior students have been buzzing with excitement as they use Bee-Bots, friendly programmable robots, to dive into the world of coding and computational thinking.

The Middles are diving into game creation, using Scratch to build fun, interactive projects while learning the logic behind coding.

Our Seniors have been thinking in 3D — using Tinkercad to design, model, and bring their creations to life through 3D printing.

Lachlan receives the sacrament of Eucharist

Lachlan Sacrement Of Eucharist

Our very own Lachlan Madigan received the sacrament of Eucharist.

Father Peter presided over the ceremony in his customary gentle way, he made it a beautiful and memorable occasion.

What made the ceremony even more special was that it was attended by many of Lachlan’s school friends who were at mass to commit to the sacrament of Confirmation. Other class members from the Senior Learning Community were there too.

Congratulations Lachlan!!

Livi’s Journey to State

Written by Frankie, Olive, Kaya and Harper

Livi 1 1

Resilience, courage, determination.

It seems impossible for someone to have all these skills developed so profoundly and use them to their fullest potential and it is almost inconceivable that I know someone with these attributes.

That person is Livi.

Livi is by far the quickest long-distance runner in our whole school and recently she harnessed that power and is soon going to race against the fastest girls in our state.

This is the story of how she trained mercilessly and harder than ever before.

In the first race, District, she came first by a considerable distance.

After that huge achievement, Livi didn’t stop with her training. In fact, She upped her training on Sundays to 10km to get ready for Division.

It was a hard race at Division where she battled it out with one other competitor right to the finish line. Livi ended up coming second in a great competition.

Last week Livi ran at Regionals and came an amazing sixth place!

Since then she has been very determined to smash State. She has been training six days a week running 5km every time.

As well as being an amazing , passionate and nimble runner she is a delightful and funny friend. Even with her winning streak and talent she still stays humble.

She is very caring to her friends, buddies and peers. Livi is also unsurprisingly the Sport Captain; she works really hard to make sure that everyone has a ball and that games are fair.

We love Livi and we  hope she makes it to nationals. Good luck Livi!!!

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Social Justice Donations
Our Social Justice Leaders- Lachlan and Cristian did a wonderful job asking for donations from our school community.

Last week we gathered as a whole school in our church to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart.

The mass was led by ‘Leadership Team Two’ who did an incredible job from reading, gathering the many bags of donations to bringing the first reading to life by performing a role play on the altar. They were so well prepared and so enthusiastic.

Exceptional leadership!!

A huge thank you goes out to all the parents and families who generously donated goods that were handed over to St Vinnies. These goods will be handed out to people in our local community who may be struggling.

I’d like to thank our Social Justice Leaders (Cristian C and Lachlan M) for leading us in this endeavour so professionally. They are excellent role models in spreading the message of social justice in our school.

Finally thank you to all the parents and family members who came along to support us at this mass. We love having you there with us.

A Final Prayer from Middle MP

Thank you God for
sunrises and sunsets,
rainbows and billowing clouds,
a great football game,
fresh clear water,
a surf beach on a sunny day,
a good friend,
a kookaburra’s laugh,
a line of birds flying across the afternoon sky,
a night owl’s calI,
the smell of lemon-gum trees,
sunlight dappling through the leaves,
a crisp apple,
a faithful dog,
a friendly cat,
morning dew on grass,
good times,
the love of my family,
the love of my friends,
my favourite song,
a good laugh,
the comfort of prayer,
and feeling close to you, Lord.
Amen.
