An intense and thrilling day of basketball at Narrandjeri Stadium

On Tuesday, 15th October, the Holy Spirit Girls Basketball team made their way to the Division Tournament at Narrandjeri Stadium, where they faced off against three other schools: Fairfield, Reservoir West, and Holy Name.

The stakes were high, and the girls knew they had to bring their A-game.

They started strong, winning their first two games against Reservoir West and Fairfield. However, the path to the next round of Regionals depended on their final game against Holy Name, who were also unbeaten.

The Final Game of the Tournament

In a tightly contested match, Holy Spirit took an early lead and were up by two points at halftime.

Holy Name fought back and, with only two minutes left, took the lead 16-14 for the first time in the game.

With just one minute on the clock, star point guard Audrey was fouled and awarded two free throws. Keeping her cool, she sank both shots, tying the game at 16-16.

As the clock wound down, school captain Sofia had a last-second shot, but the ball narrowly missed, spinning around the rim before popping out.

The Anxious Wait for the result

The girls anxiously waited as the tournament organizer calculated the points difference. Finally, the announcement came: Holy Spirit were declared the winners!

The team was overjoyed with their hard-fought victory and now looks forward to the Regional Tournament on 29th October. Well done, girls!

“The Day was absolutely sensational! Our team was able to stick together and bring our best. In our last game against Holy Name, we were feeling the heat.

As soon as we heard our names from the tournament organiser, we were overjoyed to know we were going to regionals and were very grateful for Mr Allen, Ms Hine and Aden for coming to our games and supporting us.

Overall, it was a tremendous day and everyone brought their A-game and it paid off very well.”

A Special Mention

We would like to give a special mention to Georgia, who is a massive part of the team culture with her dedication and tenacity.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t play on the day due to illness, but the girls dedicated their last game to her, where they dug deep and gave their all throughout.

We can’t wait to have Georgia back for the Regionals!
