Let’s Get Growing – Holy Spirit Primary Celebrates Earth Day!

An interview with Ellie – Grade 6 Sustainability Leader.

What inspired you to celebrate Earth Day at Holy Spirit Primary?

Lily and I were inspired to celebrate Earth Day at Holy Spirit because we didn’t have a day to focus on trees and plants. We also needed to plant some new plants in our school yard, so Earth Day was the perfect solution.

What is special about Earth Day?

Earth Day is special because it is a day to care for our environment and planet. We took care to do some weeding, pick up rubbish, and have the school come together to plant a variety of trees.

How did Holy Spirit Primary celebrate Earth Day?

We all came to school wearing blue and green clothes. Everyone brought a gold coin donation to help the school’s environment. The school managed to raise $156.10

What is the ongoing challenge for each class?

Every class was given a tree to care for. After one month, we will measure the trees, and the class with the tallest/healthiest looking tree will win a pyjama party day at school!

The trees each class planted:

  • Thunderbolt – Junior S, Senior D
  • Pimelea – Junior ES
  • Big Red – Middle NP
  • Correa – Middle T
  • Kangaroo Paw – Senior E

We can’t wait to see which class wins.

Traditions, Teacups & Timelines: A Junior Journey to Como House

Written by Lianna D – Grade 2

On Monday, the juniors went to Como House to learn about what it was like to live in the olden days.

We hopped on the bus to get to Como House, it took us 30 minutes to get there.

When we got there, a lady led us into Como House, and everyone was so excited. We played croquet and lots of old-fashioned games. We went on a scavenger hunt to solve an old-fashioned mystery.

My favourite part of the day was playing the game croquet. Even though it was an olden day game, I would still like to play it today. It was so much fun.

Xavier – Grade 2

Washing the clothes was my favourite part of the day because I was the fastest!

 Alexander – Prep

I really liked the mystery doll activity. I guessed it was Anne and I was correct.

Esther – Grade One

The Holy Spirit Cross Country Team: Built on Endurance, Driven by Heart

Holy Spirit Cross Country 2025

On Thursday 15th May, the mighty Holy Spirit Cross Country Team took on nine other schools at the Darebin District Cross Country Carnival.

Cross country is more than just a race — it’s a test of personal endurance.

Whether our students aimed to finish without walking, beat their result from last year or strive for the next round, every runner faced their own challenge head-on.

We’re proud to say that every student achieved their personal goals and represented Holy Spirit with determination, pride, and team spirit.

Well done, team — you’ve done us proud!

A Special Mention:

Livinia B and Chelsea F

A big congratulations to Chelsea, who placed fifth, and Livinia, who took out first place in their race!

Both girls will go on to represent Holy Spirit at the Division Cross Country on June 6th — a fantastic achievement and well deserved reward for their hard work and perseverance.

📢 Announcements

There will be no school for the children on Friday June 20th as the staff will be involved in professional development.

Road Safety in Clarendon St

  1. Thank you to all families for your patience with the limited access to the school while the Raleigh St gate is closed. This has made Clarendon St very busy, so here are a few reminders to ensure that everyone is safe:
  2. All children MUST use the crossing in Clarendon St, not cross where they are dropped off; there have been reports of very dangerous practices of children running between parked cars
  3. Please do not park within the signposted ‘No Standing’ areas near the crossing; stopping here even for a few seconds to drop off makes the crossing unsafe
  4. Ray is still manning the Raleigh St crossing, so children can be dropped off in Raleigh St then walk along the driveway between the church and the school to access the school
  5. Thank you for your support in keeping our community safe

Senior Camp Fees

If your child is going on the Year 5/6 camp, please ensure that the camp fees are paid by the end of this week.

School Uniform

Now that the weather has become cooler, we expect all students to be in their winter uniform by the beginning of next week (Monday May 26th).

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who has responded to our request for donations for one of our families. As always, the Holy Spirit community has been very generous. If you would like to make a donation, please contact the school to check what is still needed.
