At Holy Spirit our Mathematics curriculum aims to help students to become confident users of Maths, thinkers and problem solvers.

Individual Needs

We use assessment data extensively to drive our learning and teaching in Mathematics and we aim to meet students’ individual needs through smaller class groupings, focused, explicit teaching and challenging, ‘hands-on’ learning experiences.

Main Areas

We use the Victorian Curriculum – Mathematics to inform our teaching and assessment of learning. The Curriculum is organised around three areas of study:

  • Number and Algebra
  • Measurement and Geometry
  • Statistics and Probability

Mathematics learning involves the development of four proficiencies in each of these areas of study:

  • Reasoning
  • Problem Solving
  • Understanding 
  • Fluency
